As we approach the Barcadia Financial Reporter Awards 2019, I thought It would be good to showcase on our blog some of the local brands we’re in compassing in the event. One in particular caught my eye at a local trade fair and that was Kin Toffee Vodka, created in the English Lake District. Here’s a few words from founder Judith:
Kin Toffee Vodka is a delicious premium drink created by me, Judith Wren in the heart of the English Lake District. Kin is a rich, blend of caramel, vanilla and toffee flavours which are hosted by a British distilled vodka, with the delicious toffee being the leading flavour. It has an abv of 20.3% which mean that it is a beautiful drink in its own right, not necessarily needing to be mixed. It is gluten, dairy free, GMO free and vegan.
The inspiration to develop this drink came from years skiing in the French Alps, where versions of Toffee Vodka are very popular. Once I had tasted it there was no going back! I came home and made my own version which I gave to friends and family for presents and just to enjoy, for over 6 years….lucky them! I first thought about make a small business from the product when working for a children’s’ charity and as staff we were doing some fundraising. So, I took in my sticky toffee puddings and my newly discovered toffee vodka and it went down a storm – I had orders coming out of my ears, so it got me thinking that there may be a business here. From there I did all the regulation stuff and in December 2013 we produced our first bottles.
Our brand aims to encapsulate the personal, enveloping warmth and welcome, the premium quality with a touch of fun and a representation of our heritage – our base in the Lakes and our inspiration in the Alps.
The name ‘Kin’ alludes to who you should drink it with – friends and family, the black label is the Lakeland slate and the bird is a wren – my surname.
Since our launch in 2013 the product has been an instant hit across a variety of markets. The demographic of the consumer is very wide ranging, with the under 30’s drinking it as ‘shots’ or mixing with coke or similar. The older age groups enjoy it as a straight drink, chilled or as a cocktail eg Kir Royal in prosecco / champagne or just a warming treat. We have therefore a very wide appeal across all age ranges.
We have teams who attend many shows and festivals through the year, over 250 across the whole of the UK in 2017 these include:
CarFest, Manchester Christmas Market, Badminton Horse Trails, Wimbledon Food festival, BBC Good Food Shows, Foodies Festivals and many more
